Famine Relief

BEADS' focus is on education. But when people are starving, all other considerations are secondary. During periods of famine, BEADS does its part, buying and distributing food to the communities where we operate.

There have been two devastating droughts in Kenya in the last decade alone. Droughts especially affect tribes like the Maasai, who are pastoralist herders who rely on grazing land for their animals. The effects of one season of drought can be felt for as many as five years as the herds are rebuilt.

When people are starving, it's hard for kids to go to school and study. As a committed member of the community, BEADS mobilizes its resources to help.

In addition to distributing food, BEADS teaches alternative food-sourcing techniques so that local people will be better prepared for the next drought.

In 2006, BEADS' efforts were able to feed more than 7,000 hungry people for a month.

In 2009 - 2010, BEADS distributed more than $100,000 USD of food to drought-affected areas.

In semi-arid Kenya, droughts can be expected to happen again, probably sooner rather than later. When they do, BEADS will respond with more relief efforts for the communities we have become a part of.

This is in request to my father's plea to drill a borehole to the community and family in general.
It has been my father's dream to help the community get clean water for drinking and improve food supply to his big family through farming. The other main reason is inaccesibility to safe drinking water.
The nearest river is the one near Kimana sec school, approximately 4 hours walk with dangerous animals on the way.
The borehole is estimated to cost Kshs500,000 [~$5,000*] and he managed to raise 100,000 at the moment and with my support I am going to offer Kshs50,000 for the project. This is his message to you and you can share with friends for any support.
